Note: When the solution tank is filled and turned right side up, the straw in the solution tank may fill with water/solution causing the tank to leak for a couple of seconds. This leaking should stop after the straw empties out.
1. First, check to see if the solution tank/cap insert is leaking. Completely remove the cap and insert, and reattach. If the cap is still leaking, you’ll need to order a new one. You can do so by clicking here: http://canada.bissell.com/cap-and-insert-assembly-2035014?productid=1400B
2. If the machine is leaking from the bottom, remove the solution tank, fill it with water, and see if the tank leaks freely while removed from the tank. If it does leak, you’ll need to order a new cap and insert. You can do so by clicking here: http://canada.bissell.com/cap-and-insert-assembly-2035014?productid=1400B If the solution tank isn’t leaking, go on to step 3.
3. Try removing the collection tank (dirty tank) and see if there’s water in the receiving area. The “receiving area” is the semicircle on the base of the machine that the dirty tank sits on.
a. If there is water in the receiving area, make sure the black rubber “duck bill” gasket isn’t missing from the collection tank or inserted wrong (the tall “duck bill” side of the gasket should be inserted into the opening on the outer, rounded side of the tank). Be sure the gasket can open by taking it out and squeezing the tall “duck bill” flap, forcing it open on the end.
b. Check to make sure the float in the collection tank is operating properly. Empty the collection tank and turn it over repeatedly. The float should slide easily back and forth. If the float is stuck in the open position, water can get into the housing of the machine.
