Remember: do not use vinegar or any other chemical other than water in the water tank.
1. Did you allow the mop to heat up long enough before trying to steam? The steam mop Select takes about 30 seconds to heat.
2. Does the trigger have tension? If it does, go on to step 3. If it does not, try the steps below.
a) The handle is likely assembled incorrectly. Unplug the mop and reassemble the handle. The hook part of the handle should be facing the back of the unit on the power cord side (pictured below).
b) Also, make sure that the handle is “locked in.” There should be no gaps between the metal and the plastic connector piece. The plastic bumps should be locked in and visible through the two holes on each side (pictured below).
3. Check and see if the mop head is properly installed. Remove the head and re-install it. It should lock in at the back of the mop with a clip. The head should be seated up against the rest of the mop with no gaps (seen below
4. Take a look at the water tank. Check to see if there are any cracks or leaks on the tank itself. It may be difficult to see so be sure to inspect the tank in a well-lit area or room. Please be sure there’s water in the tank to see if it drips. If the tank is cracked, you’ll need to replace it. 5. Make sure that the rubber tip is on the end of the cap and that the cap is not cracked. If it is cracked, you’ll need to order a new one. You can do so by clicking here: http://canada.bissell.com/water-tank-cap-2037735?productid=80K6
6. Check that the valve inside the cap is working properly. Push up on the valve over the sink and see if water releases out of the tank. If the cap releases water other than when you’re pushing up on the valve, you’ll need to replace the cap. Click the above link to order one.
7. Check the water tank to make sure it’s seated on the mop with no gaps.
8. Look to see if the Indicator Light is on. If the light is on, go on to step 9. If the light is not on, make sure the power cord is plugged into a working outlet. If the light doesn’t come on and the mop doesn’t heat up after a minute, please call us at 1-800-263-2535, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. A representative will be ready and waiting to help you out!
9. If the light is on, press and hold the trigger. The mop should heat up in about 30 seconds, but it may take as long as two minutes.
10. Check for steam with the tank off the mop by pouring a small amount of cold water into the hole where the water tank connects to the mop (pictured below) and hold the trigger for up to 2 minutes. If there’s no steam, go on to step 11. If there is steam from the hole, there is likely an issue with the water tank or the cap. 11. If there’s no steam after pouring cold water into water tank hole, try removing the mop head and checking for steam at the spray tip. Take off the foot of the unit and aim the spray tip toward a sink or tub. Please note: do NOT put any body parts near the end of the unit when checking for steam. If there is steam at the spray tip, go on to step 12. If there’s no steam, unplug the mop and let it sit for at least 5 minutes to cool. Clean the spray tip with a paper clip and try again. If that fails, at this point it might be best to take your steam mop to a technician. 12. If there’s steam with the mop-head removed, the mop head is likely clogged. Try the steps below to unclog it.
a) Using a paper clip or tooth pick, clear out the four holes (pictured below) as well as the section that inserts into the upper part of the mop.
b) Pour white vinegar through the top of the mop head to clear the clog. Clear the vinegar out of the unit by running warm water through it.
c) Reattach the mop head to the unit and attempt to spray into the sink or tub to check for steam. Note: Do NOT put any body parts near the bottom of the mop when checking for steam.
