My DeepClean Essential® won't spray. What should I check?

Answer:

Please note: be sure you are using genuine BISSELL® formulas in your machine.  Using other formulas may damage your deep cleaner and void the warranty.

Start here if you don’t have spray to the floor. If you have spray at the floor but not at the hose, scroll down for the troubleshooting you need.

1. First, just double check that there’s liquid in the clean water tank. Measure out BISSELL formula using the included measuring cup into the gray cap in the tank. Fill the rest with hot tap water.

2. Next, see if the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom tank. To attach the lid, properly fit the front side and then secure the latch in the back.  You should be able to lift the tank by the carry handle.

3. Check if the tank is seated in the base of the cleaner correctly. With the handle reclined, set the tank on the base.  If it doesn’t sit securely, try again.  The valve on the underside of the tank needs to connect into the inlet on the base, pictured below.

4. Check to see if the cleaner lost prime. Turn the power off and back on.  Wait one minute, then hold the trigger.

5. See if the pump-to-motor belt is intact. You can find this by unscrewing the labeled belt access door on the bottom of the cleaner. The pump-to-motor belt is the belt that is not connected to the brush roll and doesn’t have teeth. It should be connected to a red pulley. If it’s been offset, try to realign it. If it’s broken or missing, you can find a replacement by clicking here:

6. Now, check to see if you can spray through the hose. If you can spray through the hose, go on to step 7. If you can’t spray through the hose, try the steps below.

a) Remove the tool on the end of the hose and see if hose will spray. If the hose sprays when the attachment is not connected, then the tool is clogged. Advise consumer to try cleaning out the spray-tip on the tool with a paper clip. The tool may require replacement.

b) Stretch the hose out and give it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose.

c) If these steps work, go on to step 7. If not, please take your deep cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL® Authorized Service Center by clicking http://canada.bissell.com/support/product-support/service-centers or by calling 1-800-263-2535, available 24 hours a day.

7. Try removing and re-attaching the handle.  The screws to remove the handle are found right below where the hose and cord connect to the back. It may be necessary to remove the hose rack. Once the handle is removed and re-attached, try spraying again.

8. If you still can’t spray, please take your deep cleaner to a technician. You can find your nearest BISSELL® Authorized Service Center by clicking http://canada.bissell.com/support/product-support/service-centers or by calling 1-800-263-2535, available 24 hours a day.

Start here if you can spray at the floor, but not at the hose:

1.  Check to see if the cleaner lost prime. Turn the power off and back on.  Wait one minute, and then hold the trigger.

2. Check the tool attachments. Remove the tool on the end of the hose and see if the hose sprays. If the hose sprays when the attachment is not connected, then the tool is clogged. Try cleaning out the spray-tip on the tool (found on the end of a plastic bump just below the bristles) with a paper clip. The tool may need to be replaced. 3. Stretch the hose out and give it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose.
