At BISSELL®, we think the changing seasons can serve as good reminders to maintain spaces in your home that sometimes get overlooked during daily and weekly cleaning routines. Each season has its own set of seasonal chores, and fall is no exception. Below you’ll find four unique fall chores we recommend, in addition to the regular fall cleaning you may already have planned.
1. Vacuum Vents
Staying true to our roots, our first fall cleaning tip is vacuuming. While we very well may be biased, vacuums are the best cleaning tools, especially when it comes to seasonal cleaning. Your home likely endured a lot this summer – like that sand still hidden in the corner of the kitchen or the pet hair shed from the summer heat still lingering on the couch. Luckily, our vacuums can handle both messes, and so much more!
For total home fall cleaning, we recommend adding an ICONpet™ Cordless Vacuum to your routine. It works on carpet, hard floors and, thanks to the hand vacuum feature, it also reaches so many above the floor areas in your home, including vents. The flexible crevice tool is great for cleaning inside vents since it can bend with vent turns. Fall is the perfect time to clean those air vents, drier vents and any other vents that easily trap dust throughout the year. Don’t forget to check the coils behind your fridge, too!
“I am so impressed… after it is done charging you can clean anything in your home! I was even able to clean my hard to reach ceiling fans, and air vents. This is so simple to use that even my 10-year-old could operate this with ease!”* ~Mamavannah, 5-star review

It doesn’t matter if the vents are on the floor or ceiling. You can use the ICONpet™ Cordless as a hand vacuum or an extended, high reach vacuum along with its assortment of helpful attachments like the Motorized TurboBrush®, LED Crevice Tool or the Dusting Brush – it just depends what you’re cleaning! And you’ll be happy you cleaned those vents, too, especially with the cooler fall months coming, since the heat is bound to kick on a time or two.
2. Maintain Your Mattress
The changing seasons are also a good time to change the position of your mattress, so we’ve added mattress maintenance to this fall cleaning list. It’s a small task that makes a big difference. All you have to do is flip the mattress, so that what was the bottom of the mattress is now facing up. You can also rotate the mattress, so that where your head once used to lay is now where your feet will rest. Doing both helps even out the wear on your mattress throughout the next few months. While you’re at it, use this time to clean your mattress, too. Use your ICONpet Cordless as a hand vacuum with either the Motorized TurboBrush or LED Crevice Tool to vacuum dust and other debris. If you’re like us and think clean sheets are a treat, just wait until you sleep on a flipped and cleaned mattress!
3. Clean Cozy Quilts and Throws
Fall, in many parts of the country, marks the start of cozy season. This means you’ll probably be spending a lot of time in soft sweaters and under big blankets. It’s a good time to make sure those blankets are clean and smelling fresh! Round up your throw and heavier blankets from around the house. Once you have them in the laundry area, you’ll want to be sure to check the manufacturer’s tag before putting them in the washing machine.
4. Don't Forget Your Filter
We cannot express enough how important it is to clean your vacuum filters. You’ll find it amazing how much of a difference doing so can make when it comes to your machine’s performance. We recommend cleaning your vacuum’s filters every 3 to 6 months. This timeframe makes it easy to remember, especially since it lines up with season cleaning. Most of our filters can be washed with warm water. There are some vacuum filters that cannot get wet, so just be sure to check the directions in your machine’s user guide or at SUPPORT Portal. And no matter how you clean your filter, always, always, always, make sure you let it sit out and dry completely before placing it back in your machine.
Add these cleaning tasks to your fall checklist and you’ll be set up for a successful (and clean) season. Happy cleaning!
